The photography course is built in two modules: the first, theory and practice, in a classroom in Modena; the second, mainly practical, in Paris, on the road.
The aim of the first part of the course is to discover and learn the basic techniques of photography, so as to move from being simply an enthusiast to being a photographer who knows what they are doing. The course will also clarify, for anyone who does not yet own a camera, which one to choose and why. For those who already own a camera but hardly know it, the course is a chance to discover and put into practice everything it can do, whatever the brand or the model.
The second part of the course, the workshop in Paris, takes the form of an intense weekend of shooting in well-known and lesser-known places in Paris.
Departure from Bologna on Friday morning and return to Bologna on Monday evening: 3 days and 3 nights in Paris.
We will explore some neighbourhoods dense with Street Art, and also more outlying areas, looking for murales and writers both famous and obscure. But we will also visit and photograph some of the most characteristic places in Paris.
The teacher, Fabrizio de Gennaro, a photographer specialising in international events, is of French origin, lived in Paris for many years and is the author of Parigi Sotterranea, a guide to underground Paris for adventurous travellers: he therefore knows the city very well, both above ground and below. In Paris he will be much more than a photography teacher: he will be the best possible guide to places and spots for taking pictures that are out of the ordinary.
N.B.: it is not compulsory to do both the theory course in Modena and the workshop in Paris: you can do either module on its own, or both.

- Introduction: photography as a passion or as a job? A look at all of its fields. Which camera to use and why. Which lens and why? Buy new or second-hand?
- Basics: the rule of thirds, framing and composition. With practical exercises.
- Getting to know our camera better.
- Managing aperture, light meter and sensitivity. Depth of field
- Aperture priority, with practical exercises
- Shutter priority (exposure time), with practical exercises
- Reviewing and comparing the shots taken: common mistakes, how and in what to improve
- Photo formats and resolutions. Saving and storage, locally and in the cloud
- Post-production (an introduction to): what can be done in post-production.
- Preparing for the workshop in Paris: what to bring, what to plan for. Photographic themes and genres.
Programme of the Photography Workshop in Paris, June/July
- Friday morning -> Arrival in Paris on Friday afternoon -> Photographing movement, live: classical dance, hip hop, jugglers + Street Art. We will go to an incredible place where anyone can practise their own artistic discipline, freely. A kind of open-air opera.
- Friday evening -> Trocadéro and the Tour Eiffel at sunset. Panoramic shots and street photography: tourists, children playing, souvenir sellers... A very touristy destination, but a perfect place to experiment with night photography, with and without a tripod: people, monuments, panorama and sky.
- Saturday morning -> Père Lachaise cemetery. Statues, tombs and headstones, wide views and details, graveyard mood: Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, Abelard and Heloise, Allan Kardec, Molière and La Fontaine. The vampires and the black masses.
- Saturday afternoon -> Street Art in the tunnels of la Petite Ceinture (closed to the public) beneath a beautiful park, little visited by tourists but full of character, with some unexpected things to discover. It is also ideal for wide shots and street photography: lovers on the benches, children playing... OR Street Art in the district of the Commune de Paris (1870-71). A particular atmosphere in this working-class neighbourhood, off the usual routes but full of character. One of the best areas for Street Art in Paris.
- Saturday evening -> Pigalle and Montmartre. Night photography, Street Art, Street Photography. A district that is less and less a red-light one. But if you know where to go, climbing towards Montmartre, it offers unexpected places and Street Art. And from the Sacré Coeur, one of the unmissable classic views of Paris.
- Sunday morning -> The Flea Market, art and furniture among les antiquaires (the antique dealers), street photo in the narrow lanes of les Puces. There is the well-known and celebrated part to discover and photograph: the dealers and their incredible objects from every place and period. But there are also the popular, entirely untouristy Puces, the ones from the lower depths: the cellar-clearers and the treasure-hunters of the poubelles (the bins), the thieves and the week's loot.

DATES OF THE COURSE IN MODENA AND THE WORKSHOP IN PARIS
The course in Modena will run over 8 lessons of 2.5 hours, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 20:30.
REQUIREMENTS
The workshop is open to everyone; it requires no specific or advanced knowledge of photography. But for those who have taken the basic course, it will be a way to put into practice the theory and the techniques covered during the course in Modena.
COSTS
- Cost of the basic photography course in Modena: €290.
- Cost of the photography workshop in Paris: €260.
- Cost for both modules: €490.
The workshop in Paris includes neither the return flight from Bologna to Paris nor the three nights in Paris.
Travel to Paris and accommodation are arranged and paid for by the participants, as are local transport (metro, bus) and meals.

The balance must be paid in full by the first day of the course, that is, before 30 May 2023. A regular receipt will be issued for the deposit and for the balance.
COURSE CANCELLATION
Should the course and/or the workshop be cancelled, for any reason, anyone who has paid the deposit or the balance will be reimbursed in full. Before 30 May, a participant who has to cancel their place on the Modena course before it starts will lose the deposit. After 30 May, a participant who has to cancel their place on the workshop in Paris will be reimbursed if a new participant or companion can take their place.
