The Paris Gay Pride Parade (known locally as Marche des Fiertés LGBTQ+), is a great demonstration and party in the heart of the capital of France! More than 500,000 attendees take part in the annual parade, which ends with a large free party on Place de la République. It is the largest Pride Parade in France: it brings together around 90 different organizations and associations, which come together in the collective struggle for equal rights for people of the LGBTQ+ community.
Paris Pride was born in the late 1980s, when a group of inhabitants of the community joined in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Since then, the annual event has grown considerably, but the fight against homophobia still remains at the fore in Paris Gay Pride. However, LGBTQ+ rights in France have improved dramatically since the 1980s, with gay marriage legalized in 2013.
