Rome Film Fest 2021: Three Films, Three Ways of Telling the Present
The Festa del Cinema di Roma 2021 marked an important moment: the return of audiences to theaters and a lineup capable of speaking to very different viewers. Among the most talked-about titles were Diabolik, L'Arminuta, and Open Arms – The Law of the Sea.
Diabolik brought a more pop-driven energy to the festival: an iconic Italian comic book character returning to the big screen with a sleek, accessible style aimed at a wide audience.
A completely different tone defines L’Arminuta, one of the most appreciated Italian films of the event. It’s an intimate and emotional story about losing certainty and starting over. Quiet yet powerful, it resonates without relying on big visual effects.
Finally, Open Arms – The Law of the Sea represents the festival’s more socially engaged side. Inspired by real events, it tells the story of migrants crossing the Mediterranean and the rescuers who save lives at sea. It’s more than just a film—it’s a statement that strongly connected with audiences.
Three very different films, but with a common thread: telling the present, each in its own language. And that’s exactly the strength of the Rome Film Fest—bringing together entertainment, emotion, and reality.
